Moving into October...

Wow! I can't believe a month has gone by already! Thank you all for your continued support at home with math and language skills.

Next week we will be heading into the following:

Math - On Monday, students who did not complete the unit test will continue. We will begin unit 2: Patterning, next week.

Language - We will be continuing our rough drafts (due Wednesday) of the autobiographies and working on self and peer editing skills.

Religion - Students will continue their acrostic name poems on Google Drive. Task instructions are found in the online religion folders.

Have a great weekend :)

Autobiographies

We are getting ready to begin the rough drafts of the autobiographies.

Right now, we are in the midst of filling out our brainstorming tables, writing some creative beginnings and looking through level 1-4 exemplars.

Verbal dialogue at home with your child about significant life events will help make this writing task a success!

Thank you for your help :)

Curriculum

Math: We have begun Unit 1 in Number Sense on Place Value, which involves representing, comparing and ordering whole numbers up to 100,000.

Language: This week is focused on grammar review as well as smaller introductory activities. Next week, we will begin our first major writing task of a personal autobiography.

Religion: The grade 5 symbol is a rock. We are in the process of learning about the meaning of this symbol as well as decorating our own rocks to display on our prayer table.

Reminders!

Class Dojo: We will be using Class Dojo this year for behaviour monitoring. Points will be given and taken away on a regular basis. You can track your child's progress by creating an account. Each student received an invitation to give to you with a code.

Forms: Many forms have gone home in the past week. Please fill out and return the necessary ones as soon as possible. Reminders will be written in the agendas for students that are missing forms.

Blog: At the bottom of this blog is a live calendar that will have important event and test dates. Please refer to it regularly.

30 Book challenge

We have begun a 30 book challenge in language class. I have gone over the rules with the students so they know how it will work. Each student has received a log to fill out throughout the year.

Good luck to everyone!!

Welcome Back!

I am very excited to get the new school year underway. I will be using this blog for the morning grade 5 group. Your child will have math and language with me in room 157 during blocks one and two.

Please check this site regularly for important reminders and updates. There will be lots of newsletters going home this week, so please ask your son/daughter to share them with you. Looking forward to getting to know you all :)
