Math practice sites

The grade 3/4s have accounts on three math sites this year: Dreambox, Sumdog and mPower.
The links for the sites are to the right. Each student has been given his/her own login, located in the agenda. These sites will be used in class and can be used at home for extra practice ☺

Spelling Quizzes

The PM students will have spelling quizzes every second Monday. The students were given their words this past Monday and will have their first quiz on Sept. 18th. Please quiz your child at home and refer to the calendar at the bottom of the blog for dates of quizzes.

Planting seeds for our garden tower

The morning students enjoyed planting different seeds into their rock wool cubes and placing them on the window sill to begin the germination process.
In a couple of weeks, when we begin to see the sprouting of the seedlings, we will then place the cubes into the tower to grow some yummy lettuce and herbs!!

STEM bins

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. These bins were designed to be flexible for a variety of times throughout the school day. They can be used as tasks for early finishers, centres, morning work, indoor recess, etc.

We have a designated spot in our classroom where we keep the bins. There have been many questions about them and the students are eager to begin using them next week. Each bin contains different materials inside to be used for creative exploration.

Instead of having extra “busy" work in the classroom, students will be engaged in creative, complex tasks and encouraged to think like inventors.

We welcome any donations of items throughout the year to place into our bins. I hope to mix them up and create new ones every few months. For some examples of items, please visit http://www.schoolingamonkey.com/supplies-for-science-experiments/
