Games block
St. Emily will be having a games block on Friday from 2:30-3:30pm. Students are welcome to bring in board games from home or play games that are in the classroom.
Bridge to Terabithia
The afternoon class has now begun a novel study for Bridge to Terabithia. Students have been given a new exercise book to work out of for this unit. Every day, we will read one chapter together in class and then, students will complete corresponding questions, vocabulary, and extension activities. We are sharing a set of novels with another class, so students will leave the books at school unless there is a special circumstance. It is his/her responsibility to read at home if he/she is absent. Attached is a link to an online pdf version of the novel.

Getting back on track here after a very busy month of October. Hope everyone had a fun and exciting Halloween!
Here's where we are at right now...
Science: We are currently learning about the circulatory system. We will be finishing up the Human Body in a couple of weeks. Students will be assigned a culminating task soon!
Math: We are part nearing the end of the patterning unit. We will be having a short quiz tomorrow (Tuesday) on patterns and rules. The unit test will be next week.
Language: Writing- Thanksgiving recounts will be handed back this week. We will begin friendly letter writing this month and enter into the Great Canadian Mail Race.
Reading- We are nearing the end of Hana's suitcase (read aloud) and students will be completing a research assignment at the end. Next up will be a fiction novel study.
This Wednesday, grade 5s will take part in a full day workshop: Business Basics, where they will get to learn about the business world, focusing in on organization, management, production, and marketing.

This week...
Science: We've finished learning about the respiratory system and are now starting the digestive system.
Math: We are nearing the end of the Number Sense unit. The unit test will be on Tuesday, Oct. 13th.
Topics covered will be - place value of whole numbers up to 100,000. Expanded, standard and word form, comparing and ordering, adding and subtracting, word problems as well as rounding.
Language: We are focusing in on a read-aloud of Hana's suitcase at the moment. This non-fiction book covers real moments from the Holocaust. If you have any insight about World War 2 and/or the Holocaust, please share with your child.
Biographies will be marked and returned by next Tuesday.

30 Book Challenge

Class Dojo: We will be using Class Dojo this year for behaviour monitoring. Points will be given and taken away on a regular basis. You can track your child's progress by creating an account. Each student received an invitation to give to you with a code.
Parent/Student Info Sheet: Please fill out and return the information sheet that was brought home to you on Tuesday.

grade 6 EQAO
Students will be starting the language portion of EQAO on Monday, May 25th. They will continue the booklet until Thursday. The math portion of EQAO will begin the following Tuesday, June 2nd and continue for two days.
Students have been asked to bring some supplies to place in their mailbags; a calculator and two books are mandatory. Other supplies can be found in class.
Students have been given an extensive math review to complete on their own time. This review covers all of the grade 6 math curriculum. Extra practice worksheets will also be given out next week.

grade 6 Social Justice Project
The grade 6 students have been working on their social justice projects all week. They are asked to have all of their research completed as well as their photos printed out by TUESDAY. The block on Tuesday will be devoted to getting their boards prepared. The final product is due WEDNESDAY. Students have to have the three-panel boards in order to advance to the finals.

Geometry Summative Task
