Math Unit Test - Place Value & Rounding of Whole and Decimal Numbers

Please refer to the following in preparation for Thursday's unit test:

Grade 5 Study List

1. Numbers We Are Working With:

Whole numbers up to 100 000
Decimals up to hundredths (e.g., $12.34$ )

2. Skills to Practice:

Identifying Place Value: Name the place value of any digit (e.g., in $45\ 238$ , the 5 is in the thousands place and the 1 is in the tenths place).
Representing Numbers: Write numbers in standard form ( $45\ 238.5$ ), expanded form ( $40\ 000 + 5\ 000 + 200 + 30 + 8 + 0.5$ ), and word form.
Rounding: Round whole numbers to the nearest $10$ , $100$ , $1\ 000$ , and $10\ 000$ . Round decimals to the nearest whole number and tenth.

1. Numbers We Are Working With:

Whole numbers up to 1 000 000
Decimals up to thousandths (e.g., $1.234$ )

2. Skills to Practice:

Identifying Place Value: Name the place value of any digit from millions down to thousandths.
Representing Numbers: Write numbers in standard form ( $1\ 458\ 203.125$ ), expanded form, and word form.
Rounding: Round whole numbers up to the nearest $100\ 000$ . Round decimals to the nearest whole number, tenth, and hundredth.

💡 Quick Home Tips:

The word "and" is used only for the decimal point when writing numbers in words (e.g., "forty-two AND five tenths").
Rounding Rule: $4$ or less, round down; $5$ or more, round up!

Chromebooks

Good afternoon families,

A few students are bringing home their school Chromebooks this weekend to finish typing the final copies of their Summer Recount writing assignments.

Please review the following details regarding device safety and usage:

Why work is coming home: Chromebooks are only sent home when a major assignment is due and additional time is needed.
Device availability: These students indicated they do not have access to a device at home to complete their work.
School Policy: If your child does have access to a home computer or tablet, they should leave their assigned Chromebook safely at school to prevent loss or damage.
