Grade 5 Measurement Test - Wednesday, Feb 25th
Metric Conversions: You must know how to switch from larger units to smaller ones. For example: 1km = 1000m
Perimeter: The "fence" around a shape. Add up all the side lengths.
Area of Squares, Rectangles, Triangles and Parallelograms: The "grass" inside a shape. Always use square units (e.g. m2). Formulas will be posted on the board.
Composite Shapes: Finding the area of larger shapes made up of squares and rectangles. For example: "L or T shaped" rooms. Strategy: "Slice" the shape into smaller rectangles, find the area of all, and add them together.
Grade 6 Measurement Test - Friday, Feb 27th
Metric Conversions: You must know how to switch between larger and smaller units, including decimal conversions. For example: 250m = 0.25km
Area of Rectangles, Triangles, Parallelograms, Rhombuses, Kites, and Trapezoids: The "grass" inside a shape. Always use square units (e.g. m2). Formulas will be posted on the board.
Surface Area of Prisms: The total area of all the "faces" (the skin) of a 3D object. Strategy: Use a Net to see all the faces. Find the area of each individual rectangle and triangle, then add them all together.
Composite Shapes: Finding the area of larger shapes that might be made of rectangles and triangles. Strategy: "Slice" the shape into smaller recognizable parts, find the area of each using the correct formula, and add them together.
