Family Learning Activities for an Unconventional School Year

Family Learning Activities for an Unconventional School Year
We’re just a few weeks into an unconventional school year, and the year ahead is looking to be a challenging one.

With some kids learning at home and others learning in the classroom, it will be difficult to ensure students don’t fall behind.

The HSBC Family Literacy First program offers dozens of free curriculum-based workbooks and activity sheets for children of all ages.

These activities are a great resource for parents, teachers, librarians, and anyone working in early education and family literacy.

Check out some of these free activities offered through the program.

Financial Literacy Month is in November

The most recent activities from the HSBC Family Literacy First program have a family financial literacy focus. A recent study showed that parents are vital to helping improve children’s financial literacy skills.

To access these activities, download modules 11 to 14 on FamilyLiteracyFirst.ca. Workbooks are written and designed in clear language for families with children aged six to 11 and are ideal for students to do in-class or at-home with parents and caregivers.

The workbooks cover topics such as how to budget, how to save, and addressing needs and wants.
Check out sample family financial literacy worksheets here:

Family Literacy Day is Fast Approaching!

Family Literacy Day will once again take place on January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.

We’ll soon announce the theme on our website, FamilyLiteracyDay.ca, along with lots of great free learning and promotional resources for anyone to download.

Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development, improving a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well. Learn more at FamilyLiteracyDay.ca.
This message comes to you from ABC Life Literacy Canada, a national charitable organization that develops free programming and resources for learners across Canada.

We hope you found this information helpful! Please sign-up to receive ABC’s free monthly e-newsletter for future updates.
