Homework

Hello parents,

I want to make you all aware that homework completion is becoming somewhat of a problem in our classroom. Homework usually consists of math worksheets that have been started in class and not finished. Students always have 2 nights to work on them.

I have begun doing regular checks and find that on average about 50% of the class is successful in completing the assigned work. I am now keeping close track and after 3 strikes, a phone call home will be made. Every month the students start fresh. This month I had a lot of students with 3 or more strikes and a lot that were on the cusp with 2 strikes.

On average, as per the school board's homework standards, grade 5s should be doing an average of 50 minutes of homework a night and grade 6s, 60 minutes. I have made the students aware that if they are unable to complete homework due to extracurricular activities or other commitments, they can simply ask mom/dad to write a short note in the agenda asking for an extension.

I am asking you to please be looking at the agendas on a daily basis and encouraging your son/daughter to take the responsibility to complete their homework.

Thank you for your support 😀
